So the local paper has for some reason been receiving and printing a lot of letters on the subject of religion this summer, there are the atheists, the fanatic christians but most interestingly a lot of letters from the “We are Cute and Huggable”-christians (from now on reffered to as the WaCaH
) (gulle-gull-kristna på svenska). Now they always make me laugh, they are kinda cute with their extreme naivety and lack of reasonable arguments (like most religious people), and you have to adore their will to make the world a more loving place, I mean they can almost compete with the humanists and might even win had it not been for the fact that their love and compassion is based on some belief that “God” loves everyone and that we therefore should all love each other, whereas humanists don’t need “God” to argue that we all should love and care for each other.
Anyway, most of the WaCaH where probably brought up with the same cuteness-christianity as I was, its an interesting form of religion; more or less without much commitment; “God” exsists and loves us, Jesus was killed on the cross to save humanity, when you die you go to heaven if you’ve been good etc, get baptised as a baby, go to church once or twice a year, then go through the confirmation process in teens where you get to cut out paper-angels and talk about love and life and Jesus. Writing it kinda makes me wanna puke, but I swear I wont.
It was actually halfway through the confirmation process that yours truly backed out of religion for good. My argument at the time was simply that none of the christian traditions made sense, they had no meaning from a religious point of view, (even though some of them do from many other perspectives, I mean, who wants to give up x-mas? ), and the religion itself just lacked reasonable arguments, what was the point? The thing is, I don’t need “God”, and I have no reason to believe that “God “exists.
Anyway, the point of this post was to give you a short introduction before I start arguing “God”´s non-existance. On my old blog I posted a few pieces on “It”, one of many hypothetical versions of “God” and I thought I’d re-post those pieces here, then I promise I’ll write some new ones on other versions of a hypothetical “God”!
